Victorian Wicklow Town has won the Christmas Business Towns Competition

Congratulations to every retailer and trader in Wicklow who pulled together to make our town look spectacular last Tuesday and Wednesday.  RTE has informed us that we have won the Medium Towns Category in The RTE Business Christmas Towns Competition.

The reward for all of the hard work is that Wicklow will get a 30 second and then a 2.5 minute clip on RTE on Monday 19thDecember – So tune in to The Business on RTE One at 8.30pm to see the clips.

This invaluable advertisement for the Town will encourage more shoppers into the town for the rest of the Christmas season and also persuade them to visit in the future. The Chamber would urge all shops to keep up the Victorian theme to show that Wicklow is a fun and entertaining town. As footfall may be better than expected, you could possibly maximize a captive audience by asking customers if they’d like to receive further promotions through email or text and by keeping in touch with them! This submission was based on the Victorian theme of the Town and rewards the winning towns for innovative and imaginative ideas in getting people to shop locally. This is part of RTE’s Local Heroes Campaign to encourage sustainable growth and jobs. The footfall through the Gaol for the last 2 weeks has been huge, and we need to continue to pull these visitors onto the main streets to enjoy everything we have to offer and make Christmas 2012 a success.
Please pop into your neighbors to ensure that they get involved to create a magical streetscape, so that Wicklow can show future visitors what we have achieved to make the shoppers stay local.
